The history of the Strawberry Train to Aranjuez

The train to Aranjuez recreates the first train line of de Comunidad de Madrid and goes from Madrid to Aranjuez, a town in the outskirts of Madrid and a UNESCO heritage site, famous for its strawberries and incredible landscape. This line was inaugurated in 1851 and the train as we now know it has been taking the same journey since 1984.

While on the train, you will be able to go back to the past and enjoy a journey in wooden wagons that were restored in the 20th century.

The train is pulled by a 289-015 electric locomotive, a historical engine from the 1970s which belongs to the Railway Museum. It also features a second class carriage belonging to the first series of coaches built for Renfe between 1947 and 1953. The rest of the train is made up of four wooden carriages called “Costa”, built between 1914 and 1930, which covered the MZA commuter services (Madrid-Zaragoza-Alicante), in addition to a van and a 1960s wagon.
