Our Summer Camp

We follow strict Coronavirus protocols to ensure that the LAE Kids’ learning centre is as safe as possible. See here for more information on our protocols.

Our Spanish Summer Camp is on the same floor as our adult school but is in a separate area. It is very near a park so we can go there under the shaded trees for our mid-morning break and for the children to burn off some energy.   We have air-con in each classroom to keep everyone cool through the warmer months.  They get a water bottle in their welcome pack and we have filtered water and we ensure the children drink plenty of water throughout the day during our Junior Spanish Summer Camp.

Our proven, full-immersion methodology involves the teacher speaking only Spanish and encourages our students to play, move, practice and get hands on so they can relate the language with things and actions, just like they do in their native language.

We also make sure that we don’t just stay in the classroom. What is special about our camp is the small group numbers, which allow us to take the children on mini-excursions once a week to see Madrid and live Spanish. We can go to the robot museum, dance classes or even to the Real Madrid football stadium!

All activities are included in the cost of the camp.

Each day has a theme, like animals, art, technology, sports, dance, food and cooking, and the teacher uses these themes to weave in the vocabulary and structures to ensure that we build on previous knowledge every day. The changing themes and activities keep them engaged and focused.

Even though our activities sound like lots of fun, they’re more than just games! Between 9 and 13, your children are that little bit older and craving independence, and have a thirst for knowledge. We don’t just work on new vocabulary and grammatical structures, but also developmental and social skills too.

For example, making a Spanish omelette (tortilla) teaches our students how to cook, work in a team, follow instructions, and helps them learn action verbs and imperatives, while also learning kitchen and food vocabulary.  You will have to try the tortilla when you pick them up, so let’s hope it’s deliciosa!

The morning curriculum (09.00-13.00):

Each day has a theme (animals, technology, sports, dance, food & cooking, etc) and the teachers plan the vocabulary and grammatical content based on the themes and according to the age and level group.  They work on projects both individually and in groups. The teachers put a focus on helping the students to bond with their classmates and gaining confidence to speak and participate in Spanish.  Only Spanish is spoken by the teachers but they have the ability to converse in other languages when needed. We also organise a trip to a museum, park or cultural centre each week.   The camp has a lovely feel and the children have such an amazing time whilst studying Spanish.

To organise your classes, we will send you a level test around 2 weeks before you arrival.  Once we receive that we will place you in the most appropriate group. We have between 16 and 20 levels depending on the time of year so it is very fine tuned.  The cost of the adult Spanish classes is 195€ plus 40€ matriculation.  You can see more about our school at www.laemadrid.com.
