Our Summer Camp
We host our camp at LAE Kids’ young learners’ school campus, which is perfectly adapted for our Kids to enjoy an exciting summer in the heart of Madrid. It’s located in a leafy suburb, opposite a park where we spend the sunny summer mornings playing games and eating our snacks!
Our proven, full-immersion methodology involves the teacher speaking only Spanish and encourages our students to play, move, practice and get hands on so they can relate the language with things and actions, just like they do in their native language.
We also make sure that we don’t just stay in the classroom. What is special about our camp is the small group numbers, which allow us to take the children on mini-excursions once a week to see Madrid and live Spanish. We can go to the robot museum, dance classes or even to the Real Madrid football stadium!
All activities are included in the cost of the camp.
We work around themes (animals, technology, sports, dance, food, cooking, etc.) and use them to plan the vocabulary and grammatical content of each class and activity according to age. These themes change every day so the campers work through tons of new words and learn about lots of different things!
As the children have more educational experience at this age, the camp includes more structured classes, especially in the 10-12 (year-old) group as most of these children will have had some prior knowledge of Spanish and are likely to be learning Spanish at school. We also take themes from school curricula worldwide so that they are working on key subjects that are relevant to their standard education. This boost can have a massive impact on their academic performance, especially in their confidence when speaking the Spanish language.
Even though our activities sound like lots of fun, they’re more than just games! Between 7 and 12, your children are that little bit older and craving independence, and have a thirst for knowledge. We don’t just work on new vocabulary and grammatical structures, but also developmental and social skills too.
For example, making a Spanish omelette (tortilla) teaches our students how to cook, work in a team, follow instructions and helps them learn action verbs and imperatives, while also learning kitchen and food vocabulary. You will have to try the tortilla when you pick them up, so let’s hope it’s deliciosa!
Your child will be in a group of children from all over the world! The teachers put a focus on helping students to bond with their classmates and gain confidence to speak and participate in Spanish. Only Spanish is spoken by the teachers but they have the ability to converse in other languages when needed.
We start each morning at 09.15 and finish at 13.15, from Monday to Friday. We provide a healthy snack for the children between 11.00-11.30, where we have a short break to get some fresh air. We cater for all allergies and dietary requirements.
For those looking for a longer day camp, we have our Spanish Art & Craft school in the afternoon. The children can bring a packed lunch or we can provide one and they will have a supervised lunch time from 13.15 to 14.15.
At 14.30 we begin Art school with a local artist and Spanish teacher. They will use a range of materials to create wonderful works of art, study basic techniques and get very very messy! We will spend some time outside collecting nature for our projects but we will keep in the shade of the trees and limit the time outside to 20 minutes.
At the end of the week we will have our Gallery Opening where friends and family are welcome to come and celebrate with us.
We also offer Spanish classes for adults at LAE Madrid, our accredited Spanish school, which is nearby. Click here to see our Spanish Academy for adults in Madrid. Please mention when contacting us that you would like information about adult classes too.
